The snow has melted and the Okanagan is finally warming up! Hooray Spring!! Time to dust off the runners and hit the pavement. Running promotes heart health and has been hailed for its cardiovascular benefits. Running makes you sweat; sweat rids your body of toxins that can clog pores and lead to pimples and blemishes. Running also transports more oxygen and blood, carrying nutrients to the skin and helping to improve overall skin health.
Here are 4 Benefits why Running gives you a radiant glowing complexion:
- Reduces Stress- Conditions that can improve when stress is reduced include acne and eczema. Although researchers are still investigating the link between stress and skin, studies show that the sebaceous glands, which produce oil in the skin, are influenced by stress hormones.
- Anti-Aging- Increasing your circulation with cardio delivers a greater amount of oxygen and nutrients to your skin, which helps repair it and increase collagen production.
- Removes toxins- regenerates and remove toxins more efficiently that are built up in the skin.
- Helps you sleep- People who run claim they fall asleep quicker, experience a deeper sleep, wake up less often and feel less tired throughout the day, than people who don’t run. A good night’s sleep can mean good skin health because when you’re sleep-deprived, your body makes more of the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can lead to increased stress and inflammation in the body.
During the month of March the weather can still be cool and windy. Before I head out for a run I like to apply a healthy amount of Peppermint Lip Balm to protect my lips. I apply coconut oil to the roots of my hair and Body Butter to my hands and nails. These steps provide me with a great barrier for my skin and hair.
If you haven’t thought about running, you should definitely give it a go! Your skin will thank you!
